The Company commenced the manufacture of immunoturbidimetry-related assays in 1988 and has, in particular, earned steadfast trust in this field, with an emphasis on medical institutions, for “Nittobo the immunology specialist.” Nittobo Medical continues today to support healthcare sites both in Japan and throughout the world. In addition to its N-assay series for use with open-system reagents for automated analyzers which are deployed in laboratories of medical institutions and in comprehensive medical exams among other applications, TRACP-5b, which is used in the diagnosis of osteoporosis, and other products, are also highly rated in Japan and overseas.

History of Our Businesses

The medical business made its initial appearance around 1965, at the former Chemical Fiber Laboratory of Nittobo. Around this time, the Chemical Fiber Laboratory shifted its focus from research on synthetic fibers to fine chemicals and, based on the idea that “biochemistry will be the defining chemistry of the next generation,” entered into an entirely new field to its previous business areas.
While this research represents the starting point, we have been developing general chemistry reagents, in response to the expansion of the market for immunoturbidimetric reagents, in 1985, the Company also established partnerships with International Immunology Corporation and Midland BioProducts Corporation (later Nittobo America Inc.), which manufacture antisera for use as the raw materials in immunoturbidimetric reagents. Since then, we have steadily built up our development technologies for in vitro diagnostic reagents as well as our knowhow on antisera production, to create the foundation for our current medical business.
