Heat resistance and heat insulation markets

For heat insulation and construction work

Nittobo's heat-resistant and nonflammable glass cloth is widely used as an alternative to asbestos, a carcinogenic substance.

Nonflammable heat-insulating materials (glass wool and rock wool) are used to construct the ceiling, walls, and other components of houses; install such equipment as boilers and smoke tubes; and for the duct of air-conditioning systems. Nittobo's glass cloth is used for incrustation materials that make the surface of these heat-insulating materials (glass wool and rock wool) smooth and protect them. Various kinds of processing, including sealing, can be performed for these materials taking the purpose of use and ease of handling into consideration. Twill cloth, which is thick yet flexible, is sometimes used as is.

Asbestos, whose use is regulated because of carcinogenicity, has often been used as an external covering for nonflammable heat-insulating materials in the engine room of vessels and the pipes and instruments of plants.
Heat-resistant, nonflammable glass cloth is highly rated as an alternative to asbestos and is used for a wide range of purposes, such as heat-insulating materials, flexible couplings, and brake lining materials.

Difference between glass fiber and asbestos

Glass filaments are artificial fibers that are deemed safe for humans, in contrast to hazardous asbestos. Their safety is internationally recognized.

For details of glass filaments, including safety, please refer to the website of
the Glass Fiber Association.
